Ngā Taonga Tuku Iho
Next date: Tuesday, July 07, 2026 | 10:00 AM
to Sunday, October 11, 2026 | 03:00 PM
Ngā Taonga Tuku Iho is a whānau-led art exhibition presented by Te Whānau Chambers, celebrating whakapapa, creativity and the intergenerational passing on of knowledge and taonga.
The exhibition brings together 11 adult artists and 10 rangatahi, all connected through the legacy of Winiwini Chambers (née Paora) and Trevor Chambers, who raised their family in Foxton. Returning to Te Awahou allows whānau members to reconnect with their tūrangawaewae, honour those who came before them, and share their stories with the wider community through art.
The works span painting, photography, kākahu, kete, carving and taonga pūoro, reflecting both traditional and contemporary Māori artistic practice. For many participants, this will be their first time exhibiting publicly.
Aligned with the spirit of Matariki, Ngā Taonga Tuku Iho is a celebration of remembrance, reflection, connection and renewal. It is a living expression of whakapapa and collective identity, and an invitation to others to celebrate their own stories and cultural heritage.
Community workshops in flax flower and bangle making will run throughout the exhibition, with family-friendly gallery activities available for tamariki.
Nau mai, haere mai. All are welcome.
