No Shame No Silence is taking place at the award winning Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom in Foxton, Horowhenua.
The aim of the exhibition is to shine a light, cultivate conversations, and create a change in Family Violence and the Family Court system in New Zealand.
22 artists from throughout New Zealand providing pieces of art in different art forms to share their experience of family violence or their experience of the family court system.
No Shame No Silence stems from a Community in Action March to Parliament by Domestic Violence Survivors, held in August 2017. The March called for a Royal Commission of Enquiry into New Zealand’s Family Court. The exhibition aims to continue the conversation by shining a light on domestic violence and the Family Court’s response to survivors of domestic violence through launching the No Shame No Silence Exhibition.
According to the latest statistics Horowhenua has the second highest rate of domestic violence reported in New Zealand on a per capita basis.
We want the exhibition to help people to understand that what is happening in family violence and with our young people in the family court system is real, it's not just something you see on the news affecting other people, it is happening in our community to our children, and it isn’t OK’,
The exhibition will also auction off some of the art work with money raised going to Backbone Collective and Women's Refuge.
A blessing will be held at 10am, 1st November.
